I've just bought myself an A4 Avant 1996 110 BHP.

Been looking under the bonnet & there is a vacuum pipe that is not connected to anything - i've tried blanking it off but it does not seem to make a difference

The car seems to have no turbo boost, but before going down the MAF route I would like to ensure that all the vacuum pipes are routed correctly & replace any older/perished lookin ones.

So does anyone have a schematic of the vac pipe layour - what should be connected to what - I'm pretty sure that there should not be an open end on any of these vac pipes - but there is at the moment.......

help me give my new toy a higher powered lease of life so I can start enjoying it.......

    110 vac control layout:

    Turbo

    (one on right for 110)

The most obvious tube is the N75 to turbo vac actuator (ontop of the turbo).

    EGR

mine is the 110 BHP - would that be the AFN engine ?

Just had the EGR valve off cleaned it, took it for a blast down the by-pass, still no different, but the smoke that was blowing out from the back has now stopped - well reduced vastly !

Where abouts is the tube located?

Can you post a picture of the area?

    ini,

Here's the offending pipe, circled in yellow - I think that it is supposed to return back into the air box somehow

    Another thought:
    - how can I manually check the turbo & the EGR actuators ? - can I suck on the actuator pipes - what should happen ?
    - what is the likelihood of the PCV's not working & can these be checked ? - when I blow up the vac pipes I can hear a rattle inside them

I'm very tempted to go for the MAF, but would the MAF not working cause my engine to blow soot from the exhaust & be down on power, as though the turbo is nor working ?

Mine does have the VTG charger - thanks for the detailed piccies

Going to play with the turbo actuator & associated pipework today.

Vent line to air cleaner. If you have access to a diagnostic tool in measured value block you can get a reading of both the MAF and the turbo pressure.A faulty MAF will affect the turbo pressure.

Thanks for that - does it matter if it doesn't go jnto the air cleaner box ?

I've just had the vac pipes off the EGR & turbo actuators - the turbo actuator has more vacuum that the EGR actuator......but on sayingthat I can't see if the actuator arm is moving even when I put a pipe directly onto the actuator to manually operate it.........

Also - iv'e noticed when revving the car slowly (whilst parked) it gets up to 2500 RPM & then there is a click from under that dash - a relay or something........any ideas
