I have a gt tdi 110 with 130k on the clock, apart from the slow turn over when cold it runs ok,not sure what the slow start is yet but have bee told it could be timing?
What sort of maintenance do you guys do on your own cars and how often??
EG;injector changes, oil, filters, draining the diesel filter etc.
Do any of you come from Essex? If so have you heard of a VW specialist called John Austin in Marks Tey near colchester,Essex???

The slow cranking may be due to a starter motor full of debris from a failed dual mass flywheel (DMF) but the starters do start cranking slowly as they age so a new starter motor may be required. If the starter is full of debris when removed, do not fit a new one until the clutch and DMF have been replaced, starter motor reconditioners have now begun to exclude DMF debris as a reason for returning a unit under warranty. It can also be due to the use of oil that is too thick so consider changing to 5w/30 Longlife III which is thinner and reduces the power required to crank the engine over. It could also be a poor battery or even corroded wiring/poor earth.

If the service book is kept up to date and the service interval indicator reset correctly, all you need to do is follow the recommended service interval procedures, bi-annual brake fluid changes and new procedures such as timing belt/water pump and G12+ coolant every 60k or 4 years.

Injectors don’t have a change interval and are generally very reliable, glow plugs need changing roughly every 50k.

507 00 is correct (I use Quantum Longlife III) but change it on fixed interval schedules, do not use the Longlife interval if you value you cam and turbo. The ASZ and ARL cambelt are the same.
