Hi - just wondering what kind of fuel economy you guys are getting. I have just bought a 2003 A4 TDi Sport and am very disapointed with the fuel economy.

I have been taking it easy expecting to get around 45mpg and am only getting around 32-34mpg.

I asked a friend with vag-com to plug in to see if there were any faults, and had only 1 intermittant fault non fuel related.

Is this typical of this car? what on average do other people get. Cant view instant or average mpg as i dont have the DIS on this car.

    Many thanks in advance

    Ian

I have an A6, also with a 1.9 TDI PD130 engine. I calculated it the other day I'm getting 46 mpg, a good mix of motorway and city driving probably 60% motorway 40% city. You should be looking at slightly better as the A4 is a lighter car.

P.s mine is the Sport too, if yours is AWX it has the same engine as mine.

I have only had my 1.9 TDi SE (130) for a couple of days but your MPG doesn't sound right at all. Cant offer any advice or assistance though other than to back up your gut feeling something is wrong. Assuming you have not been driving it like a bat out of hell.

I've had mine 5 months now. I've got the multitronic avant. I was getting somewhere 45-47ish typically - however since it's come back from the gearbox work we are back at the 40ish mark. HOWEVER, Crasher has been guiding me and we reckon the gearbox work has totally b0rked it - so it's time to phone Audi on tuesday morning!

You should be getting better. Might be time to put some of that Millers Diesel Sport stuff into a few tanks and give the system a good clean through for starters?

    What's the maintenance history like?

    Cheers,
    Dan.

I bought the car with Full Dealer Service History (All long life services) shes got big miles @ 125k but that shouldnt be a problem on a modern diesel. I am now beginning to wonder if someone has had this car re-mapped with very poor results. That is the only thing i can think of as everything is controlled via the ECU on these isnt it?

May be a trip to Audi to see how much to check that out?

But at least I know for sure now I should be getting considerably more fuel economy that i am getting.

Thanks again for your input - Regards, Ian

That's not right at all. I get 36 too work which is roundabouts and no more than 40mph with stop start. A mix of motorway and cityI get late 40s early 50s. More careful extra urban late 50s early 60s

Just been out again with vagcom plugged in, my suspicions of the poor re-map are becoming stronger. on one of the measuring blocks you can view torque - it maxed out at 328Nm. I thought the torque figure for the 130 should be 285Nm - Can anyone confirm this, and is there more than one torque value on the 130 (different models?)

Is there a way i can find out what mine should be?

    Thanks

    Ian

my car same as yours but is quattro so mpg about 2mpg less than non-quattro and i average 42-44 mpg from cold start on a 20 mile drive everyday to work on A and B roads only. Btw i didnt buy a quattro just for the badge, i brought it cos of what it can do!! It was a joy to drive in the snow as well, i cant believe how much grip it found.
