    Passat 1978 1.6 estate

Hi. Does anyone know where I can get a
water coolant temperature sender unit from?

I think mine is faulty, my temp guage rockets to "high"
after a few minutes driving, but the actual coolant temp is fine.

The unit is simply a small "hexaganol bolt", with a single electrical
spade connector at one end. The bolt screws into the engine block.

Does it have a part number?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Did you tried cleaning the sender part that stays inside the engine and the electrical conector? You could try ebay as there are people thet sell second hand parts/new old stock for cars of that age. Will look into a different model/year as they were used troughout the range and one might found the same sensor on a newer model. Failing that take your old sensor out and find one from a newer model and have a garage make it fit(drill new hole in the block and thread-it ) . Hope this helps.

I had a 1986 Passat I broke the temp sender connector, your one sounds the same type. Managed to get a new sender unit from the VW dealer (even in stock) BTW this was three years ago.
