The genuine stuff - Krytox, is available at much less than dealer prices if you search t'interweb thingy. It comes in bottles and as a spray.

I never saw a hint of it used on a dealer service on my wife's 2007 Eos, but my local Indy does a tremendous job spraying it just about anywhere and rubbing it in as appropriate. Anyone living in or near South Yorkshire - go and see Matt at Autohaus Dolby. They specialise in old air-cooled stuff but will tackle any VW job and the quality of workmanship was excellent.

One final thought - Eos roofs were notoriously leaky until early 2007 when there was a design change on the seals, improving things massively. But anyone who leaves a convertible, even a tin top Eos, outside in the cold weather for frost and ice to attack the seals or 6" of snow to sit on top almost deserves to get leaks. Put it in the garage or buy a Golf saloon.
