Has anyone experience of taking out a Service/Maintenance plan with VW? Reason I ask is that the salesman who I talked to last weekend was keen to sell me such a thing on the new car, and I'd not come across this before. It's about £25/month and basically means all servicing/maintenance is covered for the mileage you sign up to, in my case 45K.

Is this worth it? Anyone any experiences to share?

I took out a similar thing on one of my previous vw's (before longlife services had been invented) and was very pleased with it - only problem was I never got to see any invoices or details of parts used for the covered services.

I was offered a service/maint plan on my recent purchase and looking at the detail, they were talking about saving on the cost of servicing over 3 years and 1st MOT etc:-
    Total cost would be: £xxx
With Plan cost is : £xxx saving a massive £xx

But when I looked in detail the plan covered the 1st 2 services and with my mileage/year MOT's wouldn't come into the equation.

My advice: Check with the service department (maybe at another ********) for the equivalent cost of the included services. If you think the service/maint plan is a good deal (you have to use the ******** to keep up your warranty anyway) go back to them and negotiate some discount for the loyalty that you are showing by taking out the plan - they quoted me around £25/month but with negotiation they dropped it to £21/month (same plan but with discount).

Similar topic but related: They also offered GAP insurance, something I think is worth having on a new car but not with dealer, a lot cheaper if you search around the internet.

    I went for it.

    It is £28/month for 25k a year for 3 years. £1008 for 3 years

    It also includes all fluids.

so at £14 a litre for 507.00 a normal service when the oil is changed would of been a lot of money.

How many litres of oil are involved in an oil change then?

I was in the VW garage the other day checking service costs and the first service was £220 IIRC. Is that just an oil change?

Also, what's the difference between the 'longlife service' and a normal one? Do you get a choice?

I think it's down to the engine and miles you do. I'm on a long life @ 19,000 miles and i cover about 30,000 a year.

I think the oil change is about 5 litres each time. But then there is the disposal, washer fluid and coolant top up.

So the £28 was a right bargain in my eyes. Also means i don't have a hefty bill every 19k.

£220 wouldn't be just the oil.

have you got your service book? It will tell you in there.
