Nope... Should of scanned it first Judging by the way this thread is panning out, it sounds like theres going to be a dodgy little sensor at fault at a cost of about 50P from VW shipped from germany.

OKAY THEN I WILL TELL YOU BUT TOMMORROW

THIS WAS EXACTLY HOW I WAS FEELING WHEN I USED TO PAY FOR REPLACING PARTS THAT WERE NOT FAULTY

BUT IF YOU WANT A HINT EXPAND THE TOPIC REGARDING SPARK PLUGS.
(THIS IS STILL NO TRICK QUESTION, BUT I TAKE IT AS NOT MANY HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM)

your not the only one who has paid to replace parts that dont need replacing, what other choice do you have if the fault doesn't show up on vag com

    WHATS MY NEXT STEP
oily residue...valve seals or piston rings gone...or spark plugs not getting enough power to give an effective spark hence fuel being partialy combusted and pumped out of the cylinder during exhoust phase...collecting in the cat and due to heat it ignites hence red hot cat cassing.....check and if necessary change plug cables/check and if necessary change ignition coil aka coil park/remove ALL plugs and change to specified/correct plugs

im no expert... but i had the same problem on my megane coupe... it wud drop power and the cat wud over heat.

i also changed cat.. checked the spark plugs....

what it turned out to be was the coil... (other end where the spark plugs plug in to)

you should hook it up to a diagnostic computer to source the problem i wasted cash on chaging the cat when i didnt neeed to!
