Hi. I was wondering if any one has had experience of rusty wheel hubs on GTI alloy wheels. Since taking delivery of my GTI in November 2006, I have had rust buildiong up on my wheel hubs. My dealership have cleaned off the rust on 2 occasions but it only rapidily appears again soon after. I have contact VW customer services and they say that the hubs are not covered by the warranty. I am now so sick of the state of the wheels and have decided to get rid of the car and have p;art-exchanged for an Audi A3.

Hi. My local VW dealership sanded down the hubs and waxed them all on two different occasions and the rust returned virtually straight away. They did inform me beforehand that there was every likeihood that the rust would return and on both occasions it did. I was also informed their maintenance manager that VW were well aware of the problem and that they put it down to the new MK5 alloy wheels being more open and therefore the rust being more eye catching. When I also contact VW customer services they informed me that they did not cover the problem on the warranty as it feel under the exclusion clause "expose to damp and atmospheric conditions".
