Or how about something simpler.. which should never get in the way...

Attach some form of peg to the inside of the tailgate to prevent the flap from nodding?

That's what I planned to do at first! I ended up thinking it would take far too long to position the thing accurately. You would have to climb into the boot from the back seats with the load cover closed, with a torch in your mouth...

Then I'm not sure if the peg on the tailgate would keep hitting the load cover when you slam it shut. That's how I ended up with the solution I have, it only took 5 minutes to drill and tap a hole.

Whatever you end up doing, I'd be interested in seeing some photos!

Now I'm thinking magnets could be a good idea... You could attach a magnet to the rear edge of the parcel shelf, and another on the inside of the tailgate. If you can make the gap small enough, and the magnets are strong enough, it could stop the thing from nodding.

The magnet on the parcel shelf would have to be small and light, maybe a "rare earth" magnet,

Ah.. I take your point about the pegs hitting the flap. I guess you'd just have to ensure the flap is perfectly horizontal before closing the tailgate each time.

Re: the other approach: yup.. I was thinking rare-eath magnets.

Perhaps rare-earth magnets attached to the plastic on the inside of the tailgate (so they aren't even visible) and some more neatly attached to the underside of the overhanging flap.

You can get some with wire attached (to bridge the gap to the tailgate if necessary).

The only consideration is: when you open the tailgate, will the roller-cover be yanked out of place! I guess getting the strength of the magnets right (or the distance apart) is critical.

interesting.... mine is a 57 reg and has not done this yet. It is possible that audi have redesigned the parts since ..... i'll post photos of mine fro you to compare to your own.

another suggestion, could the spring that rolls the blind in be weak? the weaker it is would allow the nodding action to draw more blind off the roll thus giving it sufficant slack to allow vertical or lateral movement.
