engine fault code ?????

Hi all,can anyone help,red warning light came up on the dash of my 54plate passat 100 highline with "engine...workshop" plugged in my code reader and comes up with 16955 but i cant find out what the code is for...thanks..dave

This is what I found (you;ve got the source at the bottom):

16955/P0571/001393 - Brake Switch (F): Implausible Signal

Possible Symptoms

• MIL burning
• No Brake Lights

Possible Causes

• Wiring and/or connections faulty
• Fuse defective
• Wrong brake light present (21W in stead of 5/21W)
• Brake Light(s) defective
• Brake Switch (F) defective

Possible Solutions

• Check wiring and/or connections
• Check / Replace Fuse
• Check / Replace Brake Lights
• Check / Replace Brake Switch (F)

Special Notes

• In Europe at VW-cars the Brake Switch (F) had the bad reputation of breaking down often

wow thanks for the quick reply rob....i was thrown when it came up engine fault and only seems to happen when stuck in traffic...i`ll check the brake light as soon as the rugby`s over and let you know......thanks again

just checked the brake light are working ok...unless theres an intermittent fault....any ideas about the "mil burning" part of the code????
