I've had 4 snows (Hakkapeliitta 1) on my 99 Passat since we got it.

They still have plenty of tread.

I drove the car the other day (it's my wifes) and noticed it pulling a little to the left.

So I brought it in for alignment.

They said it was a broken spring and replaced it. I told them to skip alignment for now.

But they also noticed one tire had a slight rise in the tread. He said that was causing the steering wheel to shake. I thought to myself the steering wheel didn't shake. This was partly why I skipped the alignment and wanted it done on good tires if I was gonna bother

I was gonna take them off and put summer tires in back and two good snows in front.

But when I drove it home it drove perfect. No pulling, no shaking, nothing.

So I know having mixed tires is not ideal. So which do you think is best.

The car really needs snows in the winter in the northeast USA. And we have a good month to go.

Leave the 4 snows and keep an eye on it.
Leave the 4 snows on but put less ideal snow tire in the rear.
Put summers on in rear and best 2 snows in front.
Put the summers on. The summers are all season about 2/3 to 3/4 of life used.

I really don't want to spend money on the car as I plan to replace it this fall.
