The heater fan on my 98 Passat works intermittently, it's fitted with Climate Control. I know that these often fail but my question is whether it's worth fitting new brushes or biting the bullet and getting a new fan off Ebay for £50. The brushes have been out before and turned around so it may be better getting a new fan motor. Or could it be a climatronic fault? Today I had flashing 8's on the display which normally points to the blower motor. I don't want to spend cash on the old girl for no reason.

Change the brushes in the motor. I'd bet my mortgage on that being tha fault.

The brushes are available on ebay.

Pull it out and check the com for wear and continuity, check the bearings, if it passes why spend £50, stick some brushes in and put it back.

Cheers for the info, I'll whip the motor out when I get some spare time.
