This reminds me of a story, I was heading into manchester on a friday night to pick my brother up, i parked up in a bus stop round the back of harvey nicks i think, anyway my brother and mates stumbling down the street, they get in the car, just as my brother is about to get in the passenger seat he gets smacked in the side of the head by one of manchester finest vagrants. Apparently my brother had told him to **** of and to go and get a job when he had asked him for some spare change. He had then followed my brother and his mates back to my car. A fist fight ensued and the police turned up, i dont think the tramp managed to get another punch in on my brother after he cheap shotted him. Anyways police did their usual nothing and told us to go home and the tramp to go away.

Now i am extrememly reluctant to give anyone on the streets any money at all.

I usually just say, sorry mate, i've no change...

But if i think there genuine, i'll go to the nearest shop, get a warm brew (plenty of sugar), and a warm, pie / pasty / chips....

I'll never give them money.... you don't know what it'll be used for.

I remember someone begging in the centre of London, he was just sitting there dressed half in rags, with a big grin on his face and a few dishes in front of him for change. Each dish had a sign..

If they look like their actually from the area i might give them 20p but if their selling plastic roses or the big issue and instead of asking if you want a copy, they ask for change then i tell them to f off.

I alwaya bought the big issue of a local fella but when the eastern europeans took his place i quickly changed my views

harsh as it is, I tell them to bugger off....

those who 'beg' are often not those who actually need it IMHO...

this is much like the 'can I borrow your phone/50p/buss pass, my nan/sister/dog is ill'

big issue sellers, as long as they have those ID cards, usually get the quid or so out of me.... a common mis-conception by many is that these people are the same as street beggers, they're not, in fact, many homeless do not actively choose to be homeless.
