Can't help with cost , but how many miles had old one done, should be changed every 60k. Does enyone know if these belts break regurly before 60k or is this a rare thing ? Is the manufacture of the belt responsible if it breaks prematurly ? I hope someone will be able to help you

The Belt had only done around 30k, it was a total shock although the car was booked in for the tensioner to be changed on the Air con unit belt Wednesday.
    Cheers and for the reply

60k or 4years...i'm guessing the belt in question is older than that?

I changed the belt on my TDI 130 at 52K/4 years and in was ready to snap. It was cracked all along its length.

i would go along to your local scrappy m8 and get a 2nd hand head or a recon
i bet you wont get much change from £800 quid
how old is your motor you might get a bit of a good will of vw if under 5 years and you can prove that the belt was chaged a 30k
    found this m8

Genuine VW heads come complete- injectors, camshaft, valves everything and come with a two year warranty. It is quite cheap really considering if you were to buy all the parts seperate it would be well over 2K.
