Impressive sports specification including Audi magnetic ride for the most extreme TT to date
  • TTS Coupe and Roadster UK prices confirmed at £33,380 OTR and £35,380 OTR – available to order now for summer 2008 deliveries
  • Six-speed manual or optional S tronic transmission and standard magnetic ride adaptive damping
  • 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds, 155mph top speed, 35.3mpg combined, CO2 191g/km (TTS Coupe manual). 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds, 155mph top speed, 34.4mpg combined, CO2 194g/km (TTS Roadster manual)
The first Audi TT to sport the evocative ‘S’ insignia denoting extraordinary performance - the new 272PS TTS - is now available to order in Coupe and Roadster forms priced at £33,380 OTR and £35,380 OTR respectively. Equipped with either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or the option, at £1,400, of the acclaimed Audi S tronic twin-clutch transmission, the most extreme TT to date will reach its first UK customers in the summer of 2008.
Extensive revisions to the acclaimed 2.0-litre turbo charged and directly fuel injected petrol engine that already powers the TT have enabled its power to be boosted from 200PS to 272PS and its torque from 280Nm to 350Nm, available between 2,500 and 5,000rpm. With six-speed manual transmission the TTS Coupé powers from rest to 62mph in just 5.4 seconds, and on the Autobahn can carry on to a top speed of 155mph before the limiter intervenes. The optional S tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission reduces acceleration times by a further two-tenths of a second in both the Coupé and Roadster.
Audi magnetic ride – the innovative adaptive damping system employing sophisticated magnetorheological fluid-filled dampers that firm up or soften under the influence of an electrical charge provided by electromagnets – is fitted as standard to the TTS. It ensures that handling agility befits the ‘S’ badge without ruling out an absorbent ride.
The most extreme production TT to date highlights its capabilities from the front through newly designed bi-xenon headlamps incorporating trademark Audi LED strip daytime running lights, a redesigned front apron incorporating larger air intakes and aluminium-look door mirror housings. The profile view is enhanced by deeper side skirts and exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels, which can be upgraded to 19-inch ‘5-spoke star’ alternatives for an additional £750, while at the rear a revised rear bumper surrounding quad-tailpipes subtly conveys the newcomer’s extra performance potential.
Inside, two-tone leather sports seats, exclusive ‘S’ instruments with white needles, metal pedals and special aluminium trim elements enhance the already very highly regarded sports interior.
AUDI UPS THE PACE WITH NEW A4 S LINE RANGE
Distinctive LED daytime running lights and a more purposeful stance mark out new A4 sports models
  • New S line sports specification available now for all versions of the A4 Saloon at a premium of £2,500 over the SE model in each case
  • Identifiable by LED strip daytime running lights, S line suspension including 30mm ride height reduction, 18-inch alloy wheels, body and interior upgrades
  • S line launch coincides with introduction of new lead-in 120PS 1.8 TFSI petrol engine available in conjunction with standard, SE and S line trim levels
  • A4 1.8 TFSI 120PS 0-62mph in 10.5 seconds, top speed 130mph, 39.8mpg combined
  • Multitronic CVT automatic now available in conjunction with 160PS 1.8 TFSI petrol engine
  • New engine brings a lead-in OTR price of £19,890 for A4 range, and £23,490 for A4 S line range
The next phase in the roll-out of the all-new Audi A4 Saloon begins this week as S line sports models intensify visual impact and enhance driver appeal across the range. At the same time, access to a distinctive A4 S line has also become easier thanks to a new lead-in, 120PS version of the popular 1.8-litre Turbo FSI petrol engine. With the benefit of this highly efficient new unit, A4 range prices now start from £19,890 OTR, and new S line models are available from £23,490 OTR.
Not to be confused with the 1.8-litre Turbo engine that has powered everything from the TT to the A6 in the past, the unit that has so far appeared in the A3 and new A4 in 160PS form is completely new. In its latest 120PS configuration it benefits from the same combination of turbo charging and FSI direct petrol injection for keen response and impressive overall efficiency, which is evidenced in the A4 1.8 TFSI (120PS) by a 0-62mph time of 10.5 seconds, a top speed of 130mph and 39.8mpg combined economy, delivered with a modest 169g/km CO2 output.
The new 120PS engine is available exclusively in conjunction with a six-speed manual gearbox, but for drivers who prefer the convenience of an automatic, the unique-in-class multitronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) has also just opened for order in the new A4 in conjunction with the 160PS version of the 1.8 TFSI engine.
Multitronic flouts the automatic transmission convention dictating that performance and efficiency must be sacrificed in exchange for increased comfort, and instead maintains the same 8.6-second 0-62mph time and 140mph top speed as the manual A4 1.8 TFSI (160PS). Unusually by automatic transmission standards, the 37.2 mpg combined consumption figure and 179g/km CO2 output it achieves also run the manual version impressively close (39.8mpg, 169g/km).
The A4 1.8 TFSI (120PS) is the first A4 model to be offered in standard specification. In addition to range-wide benefits normally associated with the executive class, such as a space-liberating electromechanical parking brake, intelligent key access and an auto-opening boot lid, it includes 16-inch alloy wheels, an 80-watt audio system with single CD drive and 6.5-inch display, electronic climate control, front and rear electric windows and a split/fold rear seat.
Until now all new A4 saloon models have been available in the UK in even more comprehensively equipped SE form, and the S line specification that is also new to the range this week takes this to the next level. The body of the A4 S line - which with S line sports suspension rides 30mm lower than standard on 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels - has a unique S line look courtesy of exclusive front and rear bumper styling, extended side skirts and upgraded headlamps with xenon bulbs, which are fringed by LED daytime running lights.
Inside, it adds features including embossed part-leather S line sports seats with the option of contrasting stitching, a three-spoke S line multifunction steering wheel and matt brushed aluminium inlays. S line specification carries a premium of £2,500 over the equivalent A4 SE model, and is available in combination with all engine variants.
