It frustrates me when I ask which warning lights came on, she really doesn't have a clue. So then I ask what colour they were... and she reples "oh I think there was a yellow one... or was it orange?"

Info as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

We've had a little bit of experience with these DPF's, An 07 plate Audi A4 Cabriolet had the light come on and we told her to drive it hard to burn the excess soot...She came to start it the next morning and it had put it into limited drive mode and the glow plug light and eng. man. light came on with the DPF light.

We plugged into the engine management and it then came up with a code for the filter(which is in essence in the place of where a cat would be on a petrol engine)....So we priced one up as you may and to us it would of been £640+ but the only other real option we had at the time was a shocking one a diesel specialist put to us...."Take it off and ram a bar down it so nothing can get blocked up"....We didn't follow this advise but we've been assured it works and countless people do it to save a cost, All we did for now to give it a chance was unplug the sensor at the top of the engine and it went like it should afterwards. We plugged it back in when we got back and reset the codes and they have stayed off thus far so again we've asked the customer to try drive it hard on her way to and from work(by hard we don't mean fast) and hopefully this will cure it, otherwise a DPF is a very expensive unecessary item on the car considering Diesel engines aren't emissions tested the smoke it only tested for it's opacity.

    Long thread but hey.

...btw the glow plug light, eng man light and obv DPF light we're all link, when the sensor was unplugged they all went off.

My a3 went back to Audi with the same warning/limp mode symptoms and they say they upgraded the software. All came back a day later. I called Audi assistance that time and he changed the sensor. He said it was water damaged but I think the fact he new exactly what the problem was and had a spare sensor probably says quite alot. All fixed and never happen again. Slightly easier than manually cleaning the exhaust!

They do carry them around as it's quite common.

My sensor was gonna be cleaned but the guy broke it off and then replaced it.

Even though rarely the DPF/Sensor thing rears its ugly head, i'd much rather that than a load of soot all over the back of the car!

With you on that one but its not just the occasional warning light that your living with because of the DPF. Tuners are boasting 220bhp with a simple remap and DPF removal, which just shows how much it strangles the 170's performance. No one driving behind you would be able to see where they were going though!

Revo and Superchips have seen them stock at 182 and 195!!

So 220 is in easy reach I would of thought.

I wonder what the new CR version is as standard. I've been really happy with my PD 170 A3, shame it has to go really.

That said I am looking forward to my new VRS CR 170.

12 bloomin weeks to wait though. I am praying that it will arrive before the 1st jan as that's when VAT will go back up to 17.5%
