2002. POLO 1.9TDI. Alternator Fault and no battery light on dash.

I have a 1.9 TDI Polo on a 2002 plate. Whilst driving along the battery suddenly went dead and all the dash lights came on.

I have fitted a new alternatr, however there is no light coming up on the dash and the alternator is not activating.

Does anyone have any ideas what this problem is and how to test it.

We have a similar problem on a 2002 1.4 16V auto polo only 60,000 Km,charge light flickered a bit then went out & doesn't come on with the ignition,I'd like to investigate moro before investing in a new alternator

I appreciate it's been a few years - trying to resolve a similar issue myself - did you get it fixed and if so, can you remember what it was?
