Hi, this is my first post so forgive me if its in the wrong section etc.

Just bought a 53 plate 1.4 match. it doesnt have an arm rest as standard but i want to fit one. Seen them on Ebay etc, just wondered if there is anyone who has done this and can tell me if its easy/difficult to fit, any problems encountered etc etc.

i looked in the How to section but couldnt see anything so any help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks

I wouldnt advise you to get the ones off ebay the are cheap rubbish! I got one from there and it lasted about a week. just a waste of money because i went and got one out of a breakers yard then so i could have got a new one for the money i spent!! They are very easy to fit you just remove the plastic under your handbrake (4 screws) then you will see where to bolt it then!

    Hi guys,

I have fitted one in my GTi. I would buy a genuine one off of E-bay but not an aftermarket one. They are fetching about £100ish. They are simple to fit. Just three bolts, which I got from my VW dealer. The mounting points are part of the floor pan. To fit, you have to remove the rear ash tray, slide out the drinks holder, and undo the screws (front and rear) that hold the centre concole in place so you can slide it back to get access to where the bolts fit (just behind the handbrake). It took me no more than 20mins.

If you do buy one off of E-bay, but the lid is the wrong colour or material, these are avaliable seperately from VW also.

Once fitted, they transform comfort whilst driving, plus it's handy for storage.

    Hi,
Put it this way. I have a mate got his armrest fixed by the dealership and cost him 300quids. So its very obvious I would suggest you to get it from Ebay.
Sadly, I never have the experience of fixing it to share with you guys as it come as a standard on mine. But I did actaully took all the trim out of the armrest in order to feed an ipod cable through.
As I can see all the fixing of the armrest to the base. I would say it will only take time but it will never be a differcult job for DIY.
    Hope its helps!!!
