    Hi

Got my first ever "Turbo" yesterday (estate).

I have never driven or been in a turbo car before.

I've read before people describing the "Turbo Kicking In".

    So I was a bit dissapointed when I didn't experiance the kick-back on my 1.9 TDi (130bhp).

I tried 70 in 4th gear and 80 in 5th gear - it was quick, not sluggish at all, but I did not feel any change over to tubo.

    Is this correct?

    Thank you in advance.

    Gilly

At those engine speeds the turbo has already kicked in.

The turbo should be most noticeable in lower gears....... i suggest you ask somebody familiar with VAG turbo cars to take your car for a spin, and see what they think.

The 130 is not a "slow" car.

But not in a PD 130 motor. If you cannot feel that roar power. Something is wrong. 6 speed yes?

it's probably because the turbo kicks in at very low revs.

Is the PD turbo variable vane? If yes then you wont feel it kick in. With a fixed vane turbo you have to wait until the turbo spools up and then wayhey!!! your away. With the variable vane it alters somehow and the tourque and power is accessable straight away, you don't have to wait for it to spool up.

Correct, turbo diesel's boost differently to turbo petrols.

I think this user is saying it is (flat as a F@rt). wastegate or variable vane.

Yes this is correct. With it being a variable vane turbo you will have a long smooth power delivery. I'm guessing it has an overboost feature so it'll keep pulling in the higher revs, much like a petrol. This is why modern diesels are as quick if not quicker, than the petrol equivelents.
