    No I didn’t, I would never be so gullible! I was just trying to make you feel less emabarsed.

    Anyway, back to the problem in hand. Setting the distributor to the correct position means starting up your lap top/diag system and going into measuring blocks 08, so that’s 5 minuets absolute tops. Then you put the screen where you can see it from the front of the car. Release the distributor bolt and turn the dizzy a small amount either way to see what change you get. If you are going the wrong way, go the other way until you get the screen readings required. This whole process should take about fifteen minuets absolute maximum. Where do you live? Anywhere near Nottingham?

    hi crasher...thanks for that advice...no i live in preston..a good way from nottingham i think if its going to take 15 mins...ill print out this forum thread, take it to vw, and see what they make of it.. thanks a lot mate for ur help n i'll keep u all posted!

    i've just had a gearbox and clutch done in mine and my rev's dont go past 5000 wud that be the same problem ?? its doing me head in

    Check if the plug into the hall sender on the side of the distributor is disconnected or broken, they get in the way when removing/installing the box.
