My Golf has done 29000 miles and is four years old in February 2008. My dealer says it's due a cambelt change, but I cannot seem to find confirmation in the service book that this is the case. Can anyone advise me when the cambelt should be changed and is the approx £300 charge a fair one?

cambelt is due at 60,000 miles or 4 years whichever comes 1st. Cambelt and tensioner come as part of a kit and are done at the same time.
It's also worth getting the waterpump done for an extra 30 quid. £300 is fairly standard for a dealer job, might be worth shopping around some other local dealers to see if they will beat the price though..
