    hi,
i've got a 1.6 2001 a3, recently the low oil pressure warning has been coming on after the engine gets warm, and i idel, once i give the engine some revs the light goes off...

i've taken it to a garage to have it plugged into diagnostics, but no codes come up, i was wondering, as i've replaced the battery recently, could that cause the computer which records faults to stop working correctly?

    any other thoughts?

Hi there is no other way around this problem than to remove the olje pressure switch and measure the pressure, you should get this done, running the engine on low pressure will make a big hole in your budget

My next door neighbour had this exact problem on their 2000 1.6 Vauxhall Astra Auto, in the end after replacing the head and spending £200 of parts it turned out to be the brake master cylinder. Theirs had the oil pressure light illuminating on tick over or when idling and as soon as you used your right foot it went away. Has this caused yours to misfire because it did on their Astra.

no it hasn't caused mine to misfire..but otherwise the problem sounds exactly the same.

i've got it booked into audi now, for to hook it up to their diagnostic equipment and a heath check which, so if there is a problem with the breaks, or anything else, they should find it.

It could also be the brake servo, one way to check yourself is to remove the air intake pipe going to the servo and block up the hole going to the inlet manifold and try running it then. If it's ok then it is not the brake servo.
You can thank me another day(!)

Or also... dependent on the mileage of your car it could be the oil pick up pipe in the sump being partially blocked, or a faulty oil pressure switch, or worst case scenario, a warn out engine (hopefully not.
