  1. No power to cigarette lighter so no power to sat nav...

I have just bought a TomTom sat nav and, not being a smoker, only realised when I plugged the sat nav power lead into the cigarette lighter that the front cigarette lighter has no power. Tried the rear cigarette lighter - same problem. The 12V supply in the boot works fine though. Anyone have any ideas where the problem might be?

    Car is an A6 2.5 V6 Tdi.

    Thanks!

I know this sounds daft - but have you checked the fuses? Though I suspect they are all on the same circuit.

What about the one for the rear seat passengers - is that working?

When I first had mine, the fuse for the two front sockets had gone and I can't remember if back one worked - but I think it did. One of the fuses had blown. Forgive me if you have checked this...

    Hi Darfdon

It will be the fuse. 15amp (blue). On the right hand side of dash is a panel pull it out to reveal the fuses. I can't remember which one it is but it's one of the middle ones. Your owners hand book should tell you, thirty something I think.

    Good luck.

Yeah, I looked througn the fuses but unfortunately the car was originally purchased in Germany, and so the handbook is also in German, so, not knowing any German, all I can do is check every fuse but they all seem fine. Unless anyone knows what the German is for "cigarette lighter fuse...". Or can just tell me which fuse relates to the front and rear cigarette lighters?

Perfect, thanks Rod. I'll try again with the fuses.

Ok, got it. Laborious translation of German manual reveals fuse 33 to be the one contorlling the cigarette lighters. And fuse 33 is missing, which is why I didn't find a dud fuse before. Changed it, and bizarrely, front cigarette lighter doesn't work as a fag lighter but will power the sat nav, which is good enough. Now, how do I keep the kids from playing with the now working rear lighter...?

So no problem if they stick their little fingers in the cigarette lighter hole?

No. Not the right sort of voltage. Only a problem if they stick metal in it then the fuse will blow again. Do what I did buy a torch that fits in the hole and recharges when plugged in, very handy.
