After reading the post about fuel shortages it got me thinking about how my journey in would be a lot more complicated if I couldn't drive in.

How far do you drive / travel to get to work?

My journey is about 25-30 miles depending on which route I take, it takes me 45mins to an hour.

If I couldn't drive, I'd be looking at a 15 minute walk to the station, another 15 minutes on train, changing (either a one minutes sprint to get the next train or waiting 20 minutes) and getting another train for 20-35 minutes and then walking again for 20 minutes.

Depending on what office I travel too depends on how long it takes me.

I live in south manchester and work in either Stoke or Warrington.

Warrington is 20 miles give or take a mile depending on route. Normally take me about 45minutes to an hour which is mainly down country lanes as its a nightmare to get to the M56 from where i live in the morning.
Travelling to Stoke which is 39 miles can take any where between an hour and 1hr 30 mins depending on traffic then if someone crashes on the M6 or the A500 you can easily double that

Other alternatives arent worth thinking, Metrolink into manchester, then train to warrington or stoke, then bus/taxi to the office from the station. No thanks ill pay for petrol and sit in the comfort of my own car. Plus i can claim milage to stoke

i drive 11 miles each way on the twisty B4098. I could use the M6 and m42 but that adds a further 6 miles each way. Time wise they are about the same.

    Alternatives - there isnt any.

During the summer when it's lighter.... i drive to work and back Monday - Friday.... As soon as it starts going dark early i stop over Mon - Thur.

I live in east Manchester, and the site i'm working on at the minute is at RAF Valley, Anglesey... just short of 130miles - 1 way. It's generally around a 2 hour drive, depending of traffic and weather.

I'd have to get the bus into town, walk to the train staion, get a train to Holyhead, and then get a taxi the last 10 mile leg of the journey.... I'd stay in bed.

15 miles one way. Can't even think about public transport. It would take too long too much money and a general PITA. Into Manchester then to Oldham ......

I have a 8 mile 30 minute to 45 Minute drive, depending on the traffic to work and back.

Bus takes just over an hour to work with a 15 Minute walk. I have used the bus plenty of times, but i hate getting the bus home, its a hour and 45 Minutes from work to home.
