Does anyone have any comments/experiences of which of these 2 service modes is best?
Based on my annual mileage(>20k) I figured it would be better to go 'LongLife'. The individual service costs are higher but over a few years it seems like it could save me some money.
However, it may be my imagination, but the car seems to be running rougher and is less quiet since the service (thicker oil?).
    Any thoughts gratefully received. Thanks.

Hi, I've had VW group TDI cars for a while now, all bar the current one have been on the time/distance servicing. The current car had 52k on it when I purchased it and had been on long life servicing. Average distance between servicing was 16.5k, it spent most time on motorways. The longlife servicing is more costly, mainly down to the more expensive oil. Personally I would use time/distance as with longlife other things like fuel and air filters don't get changed often enough, my current air filter had been in nearly 33k miles, way too long IMHO. Failing that just change the oil and filter yourself mid-way and stick to long life. The filters are easy enough to do as well so it's really up to you. I find the engine is quieter after an oil change, but that could just be wishful thinking!! Sources like Honest John are still insistant that if you want your car to last a long time change the oil and filter every 5K. That is what I always do, personal preference I guess but doing it yourself in between dealer visits gives a good balance between cost and regular maintenance.
If you are asking me I would change to time/distance and change oil/filter every 6 months or 5k yourself.
