Hi all, newbie mechanic question, any advice appreciated. Clutch pedal sticking down, replaced the master cylinder was okay initially and then the issue returned after a couple of hours. Can’t see any leaks or air when bleeding. Assume it’s the slave cylinder issue which I’m guessing on a 16 plate TDI 184 FR is internal so clutch out time (beyond my skills or tools)?

    Thanks,

    Dave.

Yes the release bearing commonly called a “concentric release bearing” in this case is inside the bellhousing so box out. We have had a couple of incidences where the damper in the pressure line causes pedal drop so now the order we do the job in is master and line with damper then see what happens, it ends up being successful a small percentage of the time but the pain of replacing the clutch/DMF and still having the problem is very unpleasant.

Hi Crasher, yes that makes sense, thanks for the great advice. Is there anything else you would do as a “while it’s out”. It’s only done 35k miles.

That is very low milage. The usual action would be to insist on a four piece clutch DMF kit but even with my mega fussy mechanic hat on I am tempted to say just the bearing… dilemma!

Thanks again for the advice, I’m only double checking as half the mileage is towing a transporter trailer with weight close to the limit. It’s a great towing car!

Ahh, I would be thinking about the Sachs X-Tend kit with DMF.
