Scirocco 2.0TDI 2016. When stationary and the clutch is pressed in, occasionally there is a loud knocking noise. You can feel this through the pedal. As soon as you move away it disappears. Seems to happen more when the engine is cold. 67000 miles. Has about 12 months VW used car warranty left. VW service throughout.

Is it the clutch release bearing? Warranty handbook indicates this is a wear and tear item. Will a failure cause further damage.

It’s very intermittent and can go 20-30 days without happening. 500-1000 miles!

    Thanks

    T

I would be inclined to say Dual Mass Flywheel failure which is not wear and tear but mechanical failure BUT a new clutch kit should be fitted when reassembling and the warranty company will not cover this so you would need to contribute.

Thanks Crasher. Rang the dealer as it’s under user car warranty. 5hr inspection fee the remove the gearbox. If it’s not covered by warranty then £2-3k 😳. Waiting on a more exact quote. Bloody car has not done it for the last 1000 miles.

So… £1000 for inspection. £2800 if I need a new clutch and flywheel. There experience is VW always argue it’s wear and tear on that has caused it.

So. Had it repaired by a local indie. £1100. New clutch and DMF. The old was wobbling when moved by hand. Not driven it for any length of time yet.
