Hi all.. Got a bit of an odd one here. I was having trouble with the bonnet not closing properly on my A4. I took the latch out last weekend, cleaned an acre of cr@p out, and thought I had got it. Sadly, when I went to shut it, it still wouldn't shut! I then found that the release lever in the car was still in the "open" position. I have checked it, but I can't see why it isn't returning to "closed" when it's released. Anyone had this before? Thanks.

Is tbe cable stiff, perhaps stuck? My cable was getting increasingly stiffer and I was worried that it would eventually break or seize. A quick lube sorted it.

It might just be as simple as that. Where did you have to lube it? (God knows there's enough loose oil in the engine bay to keep anything lubed for a year!)

I disconnected it from tbe lock in engine bay. I cant remember exactly how I disconnected it, I think there was a tab or clip or similar, I would have been using Haynes. So lubing the cable was a bit of a fiddle, Im sure there is a tool for the job somewhere but I just repeatedly sprayed something like ptfe or graphite spray on the cable end such that some of it will have dribbled down into the cable sheath. I may have pulled the cable in and out a bit to help ease the dribble into the sheath. Gravity brings the fluid further down into tbe cable, the result was very noticeable with no more worry of half expecting the cable to snap. I've also liberally sprayed the lock mechanism with graphite spray and topped off with grease. I guess its also possible that my spraying lock mechanism achieved much of the result.
