Do/should the heated mirrors come on when you put the rear defrost on?

Pretty much every car I have had does this but it looks like I need to do it myself in the Mk8

Not the end of the world but just curious

    Thanks

I just turn the switch to the heating setting with the first autumn frost, and leave it there until the spring. According to the manual, it then applies heating as necessary.

By doing that you then lose the facility for the passenger mirror to dip on reverse and also run the risk of burning out the heating element in the mirrors (had that happen on more than one car). I just switch it on when needed and then return to the left mirror position when they have cleared
