    Hi

i m just about to purchase a November 2016 66 reg vw Passat 1.6d se business.

the car has 85k miles on the clock. It has 4 services.

    Before I buy I have a few questions -

    - when is the timing belt change due on these models ? (Age /mileage)

-anything else service wise that will be due?

    - anything else to look out for or check out before purchase?

    thanks in advance

    steve

I was looking at the same car as you and kind of still am. From what I’ve been told cambelt every 5 year’s @ 75k. Now many won’t agree on the mileage, but that’s what my local vw dealer told me last week. Originally a lot higher from what’s in the book. The 1.6 unit can be troublesome from what I have read, but again there’s plenty out there with over 120k on the clock. Servicing again vw told me it’s now every 10k or 1 year. I asked about longlife and was told NO 10k, with a major service every two years.... which is oil and fuel filter, again I thought the filters are changed ever 40k on a vw. So either they have changed the service regime or there taking the pi@@

My 2.0D the waterpump and cambelt was done at 40k because the pump failed. I'd say at that mileage you'd want them both doing.
