    Hello

The drivers door on my 2014 Golf has recently been getting a bit creaky. It's also seemed to have frozen up when it's frosty as the door is hard to open, but ok once warmed up. It's also wet which I'm guessing isn't great.

I was thinking I need to re lubricate it, but not sure what to use. Can anyone recommend the best lubricant to use on the door hinges please?

Or if this is a common problem that needs a different fix?

    Cheers,

    Rich

Iíve had success with using a penetrating lubricant / fluid on the hinges and working the door backwards and forwards on the Mk5...swing it open and closed between your hands.....try not to smash your fingers!

Thanks, something like wd40? It has grease on it at the moment, would it matter that I'd be using something different?

There is probably factory used lubricant that has a VAG part number. Best to look up in the workshop manuals......

Iíve just checked the Mk5 workshop manual and canít see anything listed there.

You will want something to penetrate the hinge / moving parts so guess any penetration fluid will work to be honest.

Maybe grease after if you want to?

I always use a light general purpose oil for door hinges and the like. 3 in One will do the job but I keep an oil can topped up with 5/30 oil whenever I have a drop left over from changing the engine oil. Doesn't need to be specific. Just remember to lubricate all hinges at least once a year.
