    Hi
I have a 2013 Scirocco 2.0 TSI which I have had for a couple of months. Recently during the heavy rains I drove it inadvertently through some very deep water. The water came up above the headlights but somehow I managed to keep the car going through the flood and out the other side. I drove the car home (with no apparent problems) and left it overnight to drain and dry out. It started OK the next morning without any obvious issues. The only thing I have noticed is that the gear change now seems rougher than before the car had its bath!!! Is it possible that water got into the gearbox and if so how would I go about draining and refilling it? Quantities and specification of a suitable manual transmission oil would also be appreciated. Any other suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks

I have just rebuilt my 02M box and yes it would be possible for water to get into the box through the breather but it would be a tiny amount as it is designed to close with external pressure so I would say it is more likely the water has affected the cable shift system. I used Red Line MTL

    Incorrect spec oil it requires a 70W75 not a 75W80 .

    There are no VAG specs whatsoever with this Red Line , whereas the Millers & Fuchs , carry G 052 171 , 178 , 512 etc .

The Red Line is simply too thick as the viscosity units reveal !

Fuchs Titan Sintofluid FE SAE 75W

    40° C & 100°C

    40.8 & 6.7 cSt

    Millers TRX Synth 75W

    28.1 & 6.1 cSt

    Red Line MTL

    50.8 & 10.4 cSt

I would go with the thinnest as it will be the most slick when cold.

I have had spectacular results with it in VAG gearbox’s for around 25 years.

Opinion also seems to vary on what G 052 527 A2 is.

    One for Stevie .

    Red Line MT-LV

comparable to the Fuchs Titan Sintofluid FE SAE 75W and Millers TRX Synth 75W .

    Red Line MT-LV

    29.8 & 6.5 cSt .

RED LINE MT-LV HIGH-PERFORMANCE GEAR OIL is a full-synthetic ester-based lubricant designed for use in manual transmissions and front-wheel-drive transaxles. This shear-stable formula resists breakdown for extended periods and offers more consistent viscosity in warm and cold temperatures for less gear noise and improved shifting. This fluid is less slippery for improved synchronizer coefficient of friction and offers stronger film strength for better wear protection.

That is news, like when I discovered G12 Evo coolant a few weeks back, a bit slow on the uptake... I blame my age. When we started this debate I went onto their web site and didn’t notice this. I will order some with my next order and try it as now I have the car back on the road I have noticed a very slight balk into second when very cold. I just noticed an odd forum action which explains why it must have been me who closed this thread; as an admin, you tap post quick reply just off the edge it also ticks close thread, I will have to tell Stu.
