Hello everyone, happy new year : )

I'm going to order my MK8 next week and have couple of questions for which I couldn't find answers on Belgian forums.

It will be 1.5 etsi, style package, moonstone grey. And here is the first one - since paint looks awesome to me and my wife (lol), we don't know if it will fade away with time, because it's not a metallic paint. Chiprock scratches from motorway will be very visible? Maybe someone already has some experience with this colour?

Harman Kardon - is it worth to go with this audio system? I was really surprised how the standard audio system sounded during our test rides, but unfortunately Brussels dealers don't have cars with HK audio equipped so I can't compare it with the stock one.

Panoramic glass roof - I read somewhere it may cause some rattle noise or even leaking with time. Wy wife really wants to have it - happy wife, happy life. Please let me know if VW sunroofs are problematic or not.

    I will appreciate your comments!
    Thanks!

    Hello,

Firstly I think you've chosen the right model. Can't comment on the first two options.

The panoramic sunroof is likely to rattle over time based on the panoramic roof on my Passat. The normal sunroof on the wife's old golf rattled too.

I am particularly picky about rattles though

Thank you jmagee, I will stay away from sunroof then as I'm also very picky about creaking sounds in the car.

I read about DQ200 gearbox failures yesterday... I think it may be the weakest point of this car. What do you think? I hope VW has improved this gearbox over the time, what do you guys think?

The DQ200 gearbox as you refer to it is the 7 speed DSG with dry clutch. I had this gearbox in my mk7 golf and know people who have this gearbox all without issues. My mk8 has this too and is very smooth .

@uriz If you’re specifying a new build car, I would recommend you consider the head-up display. We have it in our 150ps eTSI Style (optional extra) and it’s fantastic. Looks like the display is sitting at the front of the bonnet. It shows you: current speed; cruise control set speed; current speed limit; recent road warning signs, satnav directions inc distance to next turn; and lane keeping info. All very intuitive and rarely have to look at the virtual instrument display behind the steering wheel.

Yes, this was the first option I chose when I started building my car I also added Discovery Media (I think Discovery Pro has 2 additional years of data plan), travel assist medium, winter package, DCC, IQ light matrix LEDs, Harman Kardon, keyless access and a tow bar. I'm still thinking about the sunroof (I'm afraid it will start rattling with time, but please correct me if I'm wrong) and light grey interior (I'm not sure it's a good idea to have it in Belgium where it's raining 10 months a year).

I can't help you with the sunroof, but we've had good experience with the light grey (Soul) microfibre seats on our Style.

They do look light, but don't seem to be easily marked. A quick vacuum keeps them looking fresh.

Here in Northern Ireland it rains quite a lot too, and we have our grandkids in the back quite often.

But no problems with the light grey upholstery.

That's a good news in the sea of DQ200 bad press... How many miles did you drive with mk7? I'm planning to keep mk8 for 4-5 years, it will be 150-200k km ~100-120k miles.
