I know, an old chestnut but I’ve used Conti Sport Contact for years. Should I be looking at something else?

Need all 4 and my BiTdi is a bit strange in that it’s an SE and wears 225 55 17’s.

    TIA, J

I've been running Goodyear's, very happy with them.

Me too, I gave up on Contis a while ago they seemed to get more expensive every time I needed a new set. The Goodyears come with a massive wheel protector strip that looks a bit odd at first but makes me a bit less nervous near kerbs. I'll be honest I can't tell the difference driving versus the others I have tried, but as I don't go anywhere any more it's not a big issue.

I can see that you are located in Wales.

Depending on how much snow you get locally, you might consider an All-Seasons tyre such as the Continental Allseason Contact. The best of the breed are almost a good as summer tyre for fair weather driving and a hell of a lot better in snow.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is a very good dry-weather tyre.

The roads round here are in such a poor state of repair that I have no regrets whatsoever on swapping from 20" to 17" on my SE. There is noticeably less thumping from the tyres over potholes.

After my verious tests on my old A4, and having a mixed set on the A6 when I got it, which were replaced by Goodyear Eagle Asym 3 - which to be honest didn't last that long, I've gone all-seasons this time. After much reading and speaking to other users, I got a set of Rotalla Setula 4-Season RA03. They were a little noisy in the first few hundred miles, but since it got colder and much wetter they've felt a lot more sure-footed than the Goodyears they replaced, which were in-turn a lot better than the Cooper Fronts/Uniroyal rears that were on the car when I got it from the dealer. So far, so good, and like I say, on icier roads (last weeks) and wetter roads (last 2 months) they've been surprisingly good. I should stress that I'm not an energetic driver, historically doing a lot of miles on motorways/between East Anglia and the West across Milton Keynes so I did enjoy a spirited drive across MK

Bad News: "the dry braking test (from 100 km/h) really highlighted why ADAC believes a summer and winter tyre combination is a safer year round option than an all season tyre, as even the best all season tyre still took an extra 6.5 meters to stop the SUV."

Good News: 6.5 metres is equivalent to (approximately) an extra 0.25 seconds thinking time at 60 mph. In other words, pretty insignificant for the average person.

When I had the BiTdi, I got rid of the Bridgestone Turanzas for PS4s very quickly. The Turanzas were awful! 18" wheels. The michelins lasted very well.
