    Hi
I have problem with 2009 vw golf V 1.9 tdi engine. Sometimes car doesn't want to rev over 3000 rpm. Car does not show any fault codes. I also noticed that this problem only happens in 1. gear (car is manual). It accelerates fine in all gears, and then suddenly in 1. gear it comes to 3000 rpm and stop. I tried disconneting maf and problem stays. Authorized local vw dealership near me also could not find the problem...Do you have any idea what can be the cause.

Sounds like it’s on limp home mode....

    You need a new MAF.

Unplugging it isn’t the best idea as it will need to have the fault codes cleared after doing this.

I’ve seen plenty of posts and sticky somewhere about this issue.

Get a new MAF and it should be back to normal.

I forgot to say that I also have iCarsoft so I can easily clear the fault later. But why it also goes sometimes to limp after I disconnect the maf. It wont rev over 3000 for few seconds and then goes back to normal. This problem happens approximately every third time in 1. gear. Do you have any more idea what else could be the problem. Thank you for your reply.

Replace the MAF first and see if that resolves it.

Before throwing parts/money at the issue you should get it scanned with VCDS (or ODIS) otherwise you could well end up chasing your tail and spending money for no reason.
