I'm not questioning anyones repair methods, the image in the first post shows that there is sufficient wire to re pin the connector.

The splicing of wires is a a good repair if done correctly, i.e. a mechanical splice covered with a adhesive coated heatshrink to seal the wire on both sides.

Soldering wires together is a tidy way to do this but the flux should be cleaned off and again the adhesive heatshrink should be used.

Solder degrades over time and will cause issues in the future, solder joints can suffer from breaks due to movement should the wire be prone to vibration/movement.

If your using the new plug then remove the pin from the new one and replace it with the single damaged one other wise you are cutting good wires.

Just move the pink locking tab to the left and then press on the visible part of the pin the housing and pull out the pin with the wire.

How do I pull the pins out of the OE plug as there isn't a locking tab?

The OE plug has a fold up flap that locks the pins instead of the purple pull out type on the replacement

Bare in mind the depth the wire goes into the plug re terminating may not be the ideal as it may cause an unacceptable bend radius of the wire as it did in my case.

I think its the bend radius of the said broken wire that's caused it to break. I think Im going to snip off the old plug and add the new one with a little extra wire to eliminate sharp kink in the wire at the plug..
