    2006 A4 B7, 2.0 tdi BPW (0588 ACV) 230,000 km.
Driving at 160 kph, engine shuttered once then died as if the key was turned off. Coasted to a stop then tried to start. Battery was to low to crank engine. Towed home and charged battery. Crank engine and the battery goes flat, it’s less that 1 year old. New battery, engine cranks better than ever but won’t start. Ran full scan with VCDS, only one code, #4 glow plug is bad.
In tank fuel pump comes on. Fuel pressure coming out of filter is 0.5 bar. Have not yet tested pressure from HP pump. ALL fuses are good. Immediately after cranking the oil pressure warning comes on, never did that before.
PD harness was replaced 1 year ago. Air flapper valve is not stuck shut.

Is it safe to use starter fluid for testing in an engine with glow plugs? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I purchased the VCDS just for this problem but so far no joy.

Changed the fuel filter, now have 0.8 bar coming out. Removed the engine cover and disconnected the PD’s. Tested all PD pins for short to ground (earth). All PD tested ok. Reconnected three PD’s and tried to start. Did this one at a time until all four PD’s had been disconnected one at a time. Still will not start.

Try some starter fluid in the intake.

If it fires you will know for sure your problem is fuel related.

It sounds very much like the symptoms which caused the recall on the injectors and wiring loom on the 2.0 tdi 170 BHP engine. I know Audi replaced all parts on our car 5 or so years ago under the recall, but the big issue at the time was the replacement parts were no better than the original fitted.

Audi denied the issue for years until a VOSA employee was driving his car down the motorway and the engine cut out.........Then we all got a recall.

Other than that, I'm currently suffering from a G28 Crank Sensor error, which sometimes causes challenges starting. If you have VCDS now you can scan for errors,

I'm not sure if the injector failure would show a VCDS error?

    Good luck

No. Pulled out the glow plugs and used a borescope. Number 4 piston was destroyed. Sold the car.
