Thanks, looks as though the DPF requires a full clean. Will adapt both when the time comes.

The nasty that can happen when removing the DPF is the temp senders and/or Lambda sensor Galling their threads so they won’t come out. DPF Clean Team are well experienced in sorting out the damaged threads but the sensors are not cheap.

I have contacted DPF Clean Team and they have been very informative and helpful.
So far I have removed the off side drive shaft to get a better look and I can clearly see that the the filter is going to be a challenge to remove. Will it come out without removing the subframe or is this an inevitable task?
I am also doing this on axle stands and now wonder if there will be enough room to extradite it out! I can clearly see that maybe the car has been built around the filter?
I have searched the site for information and haven't found any instruction, or information, to help me out.
Any advice would be greatly received.

OK, the turbo was replaced by a VAG inde garage end of August and I have just found the clamp between the turbo and DPF loose enough to be able to be turned by hand. My son had complained about exhaust gasses in the car when stationary. Would this be enough to cause the symptoms with the DPF regeneration?
Is it worth tightening this clamp and road testing again? Or, am I wasting more time?

Will the subframe removal include the steering rack and pinion and does it need completely removing or just dropping for more clearance?

You can leave the rack hanging or drop it down with the subframe, I let the subframe drop and hang off the ball joints, Matt our other mechanic preferes to remove it completely. I am glad for you it is not a quattro, the bevel box for the prop gets in the way and it has to be removed.

Did you read, in my previous message, that the turbo to DPF clamp is loose! I was wondering if this could be half the problem with the fault code?

That clamp coming loose is a common problem, especially if it is re-used which Audi probaly did, we won't do it and always fit a new clamp and seal.

Hi Crasher, sorry for not updating this thread sooner, I've not been too well and the work on the A3 had to stall but I'm thankfully on the mend now and slowly getting back on it!
I removed the DPF, had it cleaned, and getting ready for its installation. I found the removal to be a straight forward process and many thanks for your advice but have a couple of further questions to help me on my way;
Will the Limp Mode be cleared automatically when the DPF is adapted or will there be required another procedure?
And, will it require regenerating, I suspect not as its been cleaned but I'm guessing!
If I'm up to it, I hope to have this back together and ready for adaption over the weekend.

When we have had DPF Clean Team refresh a DPF we always have to carry out a full forced regen to finish off the job, DPFCT make no secret of this as an essential part of the process as is the installation and matching of a new (preferably genuine) differential pressure sensor... we have found that aftermarket versions are awful.
