Hi, itís been a while since I was on the forum. I picked up a caddy mk2 van recently and have been trying to sort out an ignition issue... I have searched online/Facebook model groups etc but havenít found much of an answer.

It starts fine, really nicely in fact. But when you turn the key to the off position it doesnít stop until I remove the key from the ignition. I have replaced the ignition switch and the problem persists.

Looked at an Elsa win wiring diagram and all wiring seems in order. I am at a loss as to how I should tackle this fault. I have a spare immobiliser coil and key but no barrel unfortunately. The only think I can think is that the barrel has some immobiliser bits inside of it that have stopped working? Can anyone help please? Iíd rather not open up my ecu to see if there is any damage as I think the problem is simpler...

It sounds as if the connections on the switch are wrong, so that the ignition is being controlled by the "key in switch" contacts and something else - or nothing, is connected to the contact for the ignition.

The + terminal on the switch from the battery should be marked 30, and the terminal for the ignition should be marked 15.

Make sure terminal 30 is live all the time and terminla 15 is live only when you turn the key to the "on" position.

Update on the problem... So Iíve made time to have a look this morning and terminal 30 is permanently live.

15 is live when the key is turned on, however when I turn it off it is still live until I pull the key out. I think it can only be the barrel thatís making a difference but I have no idea how. I also tried this with a new ignition switch so I know that theyíre ok.
Does anyone have any ideas on where to go now?

Maybe the markings for the terminals are ambiguous - e.g. between two terminals, or just plain wrong.

Look for a terminal which is live only when the key is in the "ignition" position.

10436FCE-0710-4E12-8888-717B28BE42DE.jpgI have pin S (SU on the diagram) and pin X with a supply with the ignition in the on position
It’s been untouched by the previous owner and I have a mint condition spare loom from a breaker which is exactly the same regarding pin location. It’s extremely weird.

The output from pin X operates the relay, whatever it is for, stuff that comes on with the ignition.
SU looks like the "key in" output
What do you have on pin 15 - a) with the key out? b) with the key in? c) with the key in "ignition on" position?

Do the wire colours match the diagrams?

    So pin 15
    a) without the key no supply.
    b) with the key in but not turned, no supply.
    c) key in and ignition on 12v

however when I turn the key back to off (key still in the ignition) there is a 12v supply. This should be off I’m thinking so I’ve changed the relay out for 6 spares my mate has to see if it’s a relay issue, but no they all do the same thing.

All the wire colours are exactly the same and in all the right pin locations.
