My A3 has started having an odd issue. After I start the car when I put the gearbox in reverse I get a long tone, instead of the short beep to let me know it is in reverse. Then the parking sensors don't work, and any subsequent shift into reverse I no longer get the short beep that it is in reverse. I have no faults on the dash, and OBD11 does not give me any faults.

    Any ideas?

Is it an OEM parking sensor setup or an aftermarket one? If it's OEM, you should get the car scanned by someone with VCDS to find out if it is a sensor gone faulty (most likely) or the controller.

    Cheers!

OB11 will show oem PDC faults.
It sounds like your problem is intermittent, that's way there's no fault code. I had the same problem on my wives A3. I couldn't catch the fault code and instead I used OB11 and in parking module choose channel to see the distance readings from all 4 sensors, surely enough, one sensor showed that there's something behind it, when there wasn't anything there.
Replaced the faulty sensor and no more problems.
Problem with these sensors vs my old b7 ones, is that the working sensors on b7 would make ticking sound when working, and the faulty one would not, but on 8P - no ticking sound from anyone, so the faulty one could be caught only with scan tool.
