Mitch the weird thing in all this is it worked fine until I stretched the cable. Nothing else just the cable. So I replaced that and the plug and the sensor. I said in my last post its all sorted now but oh I was so wrong lol. Out of 4 journeys today it popped up straight away on a 10 minute journey. Fine the other 3 times and over 100 miles. Funny feeling this is not the end of this story.

Perhaps the stretch caused a break/damage at the other end of the loom section?

While looking around to find ideas to help you there seemed to be a whole set of randomish things around this error. IIRC one sufferer did all the sort of things you did, gave up, and found after a couple of hundred miles driving it went off and never came back. I'd try that for a while and see if there is any consistency to VCDS saying "intermittent", etc.

Bit like DMitch's suggestion, I'd try and see where a tug on that loom might have stretched a wire or two. As a digital unit it probably has a 0.35mm wire, so could easily fracture somewhere if it took most of the snag load.
