Just got my licence updated for my MMi.

Update required message did not go away and after checking found that all had updated apart from Google Maps.

Contacted Audi who sent me this reply.
Any body out there know anything about this update?
What does it do and will it cost me?

Got in touch with local dealer.

Arranged for software update, nearest appointment is 09/11/20
There will be no charge for the update.
My current licence runs out in 10 days so looks like no Google Earth for a while at least.
Wondering if this will be the end for free licence renewals!!??

If any body else gets their update done before then , please share your findings.

After booking my update contacted Audi and asked if they would update my licence so I could continue using Google Earth until the garage appointment of 09/11/20

And if not will they renew my licence after the update.

this is the response I got.


"We would like to inform you that we are not able to renew your license regarding the service Navigation with Google Earth™, due to its dependency from the service provider.

After the software update, satellite maps should be available for use, however, please contact your preferred Audi partner for more information on the said update.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

This makes things as clear as mud! " after the update maps should be available" ?? what does that mean?

Any body know exactly what the update will do?

My dealer doesn't seem to know, and is very vague.

I was only aware that from 1st Jan 2021 that the Google Maps "Overlay" (e.g. Satellite view) will "apparently" stop working. Maps will still work of course but with the standard map layout/colours etc

If there is an update to fix this, I'm not aware of it.. but if there is, then brilliant.

Well my Google map overlay finally stopped working today.

Just get a message to contact my Audi Dealer or Audi Digital Services.

Eagerly await the promised software update in three weeks time to see exactly what it does?

If anyone gets it before please let us know what the result is.
