Interesting issue happened to me twice for 2 weeks. I was listening to the online radio, and when switching the stations, the Audio disappeared. I mean no sound whatsoever, regardless of the source. MMI fully functional apart of sound. Had to pull over, shut the car off, lock the car, wait 30 sec, then unlock the car and start it to fix the issue. I have the Bose system. Anyone experienced the same? The car has done only 1200 miles.

If you attempt to change the volume level, do you receive a notification of speech system active?

When trying to change volume, the slider that pops up on the screen is greyed out and nothing happens. When I pressed the speech button on the steering wheel, the MMI screen showed the question on the screen, but no sound came out.

When you press the speech button on the steering wheel, you get a pop up on the screen saying something like: What can I do for you?

Pressing that button mutes the audio. If you say 'cancel' the speech recognition system reverts back to the state it was previous to pressing the button.
Sometimes, particularly in a poor mobile-signal area, the s-r system seems to get stuck and the audio remains muted.
A reset, via the '3-finger salute' How To: Audi Q7 4M MMI Reset - YouTube
may sort the problem, rather than stop/start of the engine.

The issue was not related to the speech system. I just gave an example that even that does not produce any audio. The audio disappeared only when switching between 2 radio station, and in my situation it was particularly the online radio in the both instances.
Given that Q7 2020 is all touch up screen the resetting is not the same way and not sure how that is done.b

Press and hold the volume botton down for more than 10 seconds.
