OHello. I have Been offered to buy a very cheap 2006 Audi a6 2.0 TDi automatic. But it has some problems that the mechanics didnt find out of. Glow plug indicator in dash is on all the time, the car is shaking at idle and if you drive it hard or push it, it goes in limp mode. Any suggestions what this might be? The message from the mechanic was, maybe need to change turbo, maybe need to change transmission or bad flywheel. The car is in daily use

Ok, Hmm. The car costs 3500 norwegian kroner. Thats right under 300£. If i send it to the wreckers i Get 250 back instantly. Would be a cheap car to use to and from work AS long AS its working. . But not worth fixing i guess

My gut reaction is to run away.

It just sounds like a money pit - try changing this, then that, then something else in the hope that one of them might cure it.

IMHO there's nothing more frustrating than a car that's not reliable and attacks your wallet at the same time.

I'd be surprised if it'll get you to work and back most of the time.

    Andy.

Start with a code read and see what comes up, then we can try and help BUT you could throw huge money at it and lose it all... that’s modern cars for you; extremely environmentally friendly-not.

It sounds like it could be fuel, injector or timing related. If you got a VCDS reader you would be able to read many error codes and performance data. If you have time and inclination to do that and disposal of a car that doesn't tell youvan easy fix is no problrm Id take it

Hello again so i just bought this car and just got home. No problems when i drove it home. The glow plug indicator turned of when car started. Did not Shake at idle. I didnt push it very much when driving home, so it didnt go into limp mode. It felt like a genuin good car. Im sure the problems will show later, so i will ask on this forum when the problems show up

I have taken the car for a spin now and have noticed some things, that may be normal But i dont know. Its My first automatic car i own. It seems that i need abit of rpm to Get it going when taking of in drive and revers. Normal? My parents have a 06 a6 2.7tdi auto. And that car is very different to take off with.
When im driving it, it shifts good and smooth. But the car seems slow, not much power for 140hp. Are They generaly slow? Or is there some problems here?

I imagine it is a CVT box and these can feel odd in the take up (especially early versions) rather like having a “high stall” torque converter on a conventional automatic.

Drove it to work today so i could test it it goes into limp mode if i try to accelerate up a hill for example. Seems like it does not like to Get pushed. Boost Pressure problem?
If i drive it very carefully it works very nice. No problems.
