Hi I have a 2007 Audi A5 3.0 tdi auto that has no drive. It lost drive on the motorway with no sound of anything braking, like it Just engaged the clutch.
It’s been scanned with vag and showing no faults in the transmission.
It done this about 10 miles after I changed a faulty alternator. I did un bolt the trans oil pipes on the sump to get the alternator in Could I have disturbed sludge in the pipes and blocked the filter ?
Iv been led to believe that the oil and oil filters can be a issue any advice would be great
    Thank in advance Allan

It will be a 2008 model year, the first MY of A5 production. That box is what I call a Multichronic... officially a 0AW. These boxes fail mechanically internally and have to be rebuilt which is a fearsomely expensive process and for many versions VAG themselves have given up rebuilding them and now only fit new units which at £8200 plus installation is not a viable option. A few years ago we bought a long term customers 2009 A6 TDI where the box had lost drive, we bought the car for £500 and gave it to our local gearbox specialist as a complete job. After prepping the car including new tyres, refurbished wheels, paint and some other jobs we just about cleared a £500 profit when it was sold. However with your car being built on the MLB platform there is a glimmer of hope, with the engine running and in gear FOOT on the brake, if there is a light clinking rattle coming from the back of the engine it is possible the flywheel has failed as this was a common problem in the early production and the symptoms are almost the same as internal box failure.

    Thanks
Would you say my best option would be to remove box and send to a specialist if the flywheel is ok ?

Yes but I have come to the point of giving the complete job to my chap after some struggles in the past and present.
