    Hi all

If you followed my earlier thread - Audi TT Mk1 225bhp NON STARTER

This is now closed - just wanted to update all with the eventual outcome:

After several months hunting down the Non start fault and replacing several parts including crankshaft sensor.

Using Vagcom live data when cranking the engine there is no RPM shown.

So I but the bullet and purchased genuine crankshaft position sensor, installed genuine item bingo!!!! Engine now runs!!

So back to the old adage there is a reason why some parts are cheap, appearing to be a good deal yet wasted loads of time trying to sort this out. I will not be going back to E***carparts no matter how desperate or cheap!!

Pleased you got it sorted in the end. As you say it's well worth getting decent parts when investing time to fit them. I see it as one of the trade-offs for reinvesting what you save by not going to a garage. Reading the small print on items can help with suppliers that have nominally equivalent parts at differing prices . The AC pressure sender I got from GSF or ECP was 50%+ the price of the first one in their search list, but was Hella rather than no-name one.

On a customers instance I fitted a Hella AC compressor from ECP, it lasted about an hour and is coming back tomorrow for a new one. Yes it was Hella... but made in China.

Interesting. I tend to use VAG parts when, or names I recognise and have to trust their QA processes. Do VAG outsource much to the Far East? Or is it suppliers near their assembly plants in South America, Eastern Europe, etc that they use to manage cost?

VAG buy parts from all over the world, most fuel filters in ally canisters seem to be Chinese as do a lot of ally wheels. Engine blocks are often Brazilian and heads Mexican... electric motors are often French... in fact very little of a modern VAG product seems to come from the factory brand homeland.
