Yeah, I am awaiting a Black Edition order and I was bitterly disappointed that I could not add HUD as an option to my Q7, especially as my current car (a Volvo XC90 R-Design) has it and I definitely value it

Urgh, I can imagine. :-( And I hate to say it, but it seems ridiculous to be in the position of ordering a £65k+ car and being "bitterly disappointed" right from the outset. :-(

My wife and I see enormous value in the HUD in our 2017 Q7, and love the car overall, but it's coming to the end of its PCP term. I'm not sure I can accept replacing it with a new Q7 or SQ7 - which naturally will come at a higher price point of course - that doesn't have it. I'll just feel resentful and - as you say - bitter. And equally not sure I want to have to take the uptick to the Vorsprung at £80k+ just to retain what used to be a pretty baseline feature. Very disappointing.

Do Audi dealers or Audi themselves have any discretion over this? Would they be willing and able to add HUD to an order (at a reasonable individual price) in order to secure the order from a customer? I mean literally if we were to say that we would place an order for, say, a £70k-spec Q7 but ONLY if they found a way to add HUD to it, would they find a way to do it? Presumably just a matter of adding an item code to a bill of materials, or something along those lines.

Worth a shot as they added it to s line launch models, so technically it should be possible as a factory order, but you will get quite a bit of kick back initially as let’s face it most want an easy life and just want to tick appropriate boxes.
maybe they’ll release an accessory? Head-up displays > Assist Systems > Comfort & protection > Audi Genuine Accessories - Vorsprung durch Technik
But try it and let us know!

I tried that with the dealers, even ended up contacting the Audi UK MD about it. No can do. I actually suspect that the decisions get made in Germany and Audi UK just have to go with it

Those aren't applicable to current models and never were to the Q7 as far as I am aware

Yeah Audi dealers won’t do it - if it’s not an option on Configurator it’s not going to happen unfortunately.

However it could become an option going forward in the next spec update.

(It’s a bit like the heated steering wheel in the Q5 and maybe other models...was there as an option and all of a sudden WLTP made it disappear)

... and most likely a voided new car warranty.
