    Hi All,

    I have a 2014 VW Golf MK7 1.6 TDI with the CLHB engine (I think that's right)

I understand after 5 years the cambelt should be changed, I have a couple of questions:

How hard is it to do? (do you need any special tools)?

Do you change the water pump at the same time?

    Thanks in advance

You need the old cam pin lock but a new design crank lock. It is not a bad job, just time consuming.

Having done the 1.9TDI in the past is there much different?

Would you have a procedure to do it?

How does the new crank lock work/look?

    Again many thanks Crasher

In some way it is like a cross between a VEP and PD TDI as you have a seperate pump which although it does not have to be timed and the Commencement Of Injection set it still has to be pinned to facilitate the correct belt tension. The kit I would recommend is Laser Tools 6809 Engine Timing Tool Set - for VAG 1.4, 1.6, 2.0i TDi CR but this does not include the very important counter hold tool equivalent to the VW T10172 Laser Tools 7279 Pulley Holding Tool Set - for VAG. If you do the job yourself, private message me your email and next week I will mail the instructions. It is worth knowing that with the main pulley oil can be seen spraying from the seal holder and if left it can damage the new belt. To deal with this you have to remove the toothed belt pulley so you can replace the end cover with a modified part, the seal running surfaces must be done dry and free of grease. To remove the pulley bolt (which MUST be replaced) you need another locking tool, 3415 and the new bolt is torqued to 180Nm plus 135 degrees... i.e. F tight!
