    Hi All

Quick summary of the problem - I've just had an engine light error which is giving me an error code P2108 "Throttle Actuator Control Module Performance". I first had it 2 weeks ago, cleared it and it came back yesterday. I've been doing a lot of city driving recently (Stop/Start, low speeds) - don't know if relevant or not. To give a bit of history, 12 months ago I had the Throttle Body replaced as it malfunctioned. Been perfect since. I'm now wondering if a dirty Throttle Body Adapter could cause the new error, however I am far from a car expert and could be completely wrong.

    My questions are:
Is it likely to be that? If not, what is more likely?
If it is the TBA, is it complicated removing and cleaning?
Is this serious/urgent? We leave on holidays in 2 days (700km each way in a week, mostly motorways) so would like to know if this needs to be sorted before we go or if it's something that will be OK for that distance/time.

It's a late 2005 3.0 TDI with about 100,000 miles. No noticeable performance issues. Changed all the injectors 18 months ago.

Thanks very much for any input.

Do you know any details of what was replaced? The code P2108 doesn't sound right to me, more a generic code a cheap code reader throws out to confuse people. I would start with a VAG specific code read using VCDS.

The throttle body was replaced last summer.

Yes it is just a cheap code reader but when I have to pay €150 for the garage to plug it in each time I'd ideally like to avoid going down that route.

Unless you get a proper code read done you could replace the wrong part, it could be the manifold flaps.

OK but if I do try to clean out the Throttle Body Adapter, is that a big job and what is my downside? If it fixes it, great, if not no harm done?

It is on the cars left of the engine with a flexible hose coming from the left intercooler and is mounted to an adapter which bolts to the inlet manifold distribution pipe. A gentle wipe inside with solvent is OK BUT make sure no solvent gets into the manifold, it is much safer to remove the motor.

Crasher is right cant beat VCDS, however it is expensive to keep in the glove box (metaphorically speaking ) just in case.
However OBD eleven is licensed by VAG and is worth its money (about the same as a scan by a garage) when it comes to debugging at this level.
It does have its pitfalls if you try and use it like VCDS, but i believe its a good tool for the one car, have a go owner.

I did have a quick play with OBD11 on a customers car but didn't have time to dig deeper.

Sorry - don't understand this bit.

I saw a guy on this forum took his TBA right off and cleaned it properly - it just didn't go into detail as to how to do this and how tricky (or not) it was. His was filthy - almost completely blocked up. I wonder if mine has a similar problem.

By the way, thanks for your time on this.
