Hi there trying to investigate the air con on my 2007 golf just wondered it anyone has any help to try and narrow down the issue

Firstly noticed the compressor seems to run all the time even with air con off is this normal

Pressures fine but no cooling or the pipes anywhere

Fans do not run under the bonnet

Any tests I can do to try and narrow down the issues. I do have vagcom thanks

It is a constant drive modulated delivery compressor so always APPEARS to be working. If there are no low pressure codes coming up from a scan of the HVAC then it is almost certain that the compressor valve has failed and the easiest cure is a new Denso compressor... on the Golf 5, 6 and 7 (basically all PQ35 and MQB platform vehicles) this is a VERY common problem.

    Just a quick update

Scanned vagcom comes up with this
    This fault keeps coming back
Did a test on the solenoid and it seems to be doing something

I then checked engine faults and it came up with this. I was trying to get the air con working when the car had done 200 miles so was very hot

    This fault has cleared

I have tested the fan and that works

In measuring there’s no working from the compressor and the fridge pressure just has a - by it and no number there is gas in there as I’ve checked

What you reckon don’t mind throwing a bit of money at all but not tonnes

New switch, a VERY common failure and then a gas pressure check.

I checked the air con pressure this morning and it seems to have lost about 5psi overnight

When trying to get the connector off the high pressure sensor I could hear a hiss so I’m hoping it’s that

The sensors (switch as I said but that is the wrong description) are very prone to leaking.

Thanks I have replaced the switch

The fault code has gone but has been replaced with refrigerant low which is understandable

I can now see all the readings in vagcom where before it just showed dashes

I did check the fuse and power to the connector before I replaced

Went to the shop for a pressure test and regas and there gas run out so it’s for another day
